In the early 80’s, a group of New Zealand boat builders founded Alloy Yachts. They built a 28m aluminum yacht which was a challenge as yachts larger than 12m-13m was considered excessive for high performance sailing yachts. The success of the group led to building additional large high performance luxury yachts. Tony Hambrook joined the company as managing director in 1990. Under his leadership developments in technology and engineering moved the company into the realm of superyacht builders. They pioneered transferring technology from America’s Cup design to cruising vessels, designed in-boom furling systems, innovated shore power systems and designed concealed anchoring devises. In 2006 Alloy Yachts celebrated 21 years in the super-yacht manufacturing world. Alloy Yachts continues receiving numerous international awards and honors for innovations in technology and design.
