Benjamin Beneteau founded the company in 1884 in France, producing sailing trawlers. Beneteau’s grandchildren Annette Beneteau Roux and her brother Andre’ Beneteau led the company in the mid sixties. They introduced fiberglass to their line of yachts. Beneteau has five factories in the Vendee region of France and one plant in Marion, SC. Beneteau owns the following brands: Jeanneau, CNB, Wauquiez, Lagoon, O’Hara, IRM, Microcar, and EYB. The Beneteau First Series are racing/cruising sailboats that are produced with an emphasis on racing, yet provide comfortable cruising. The Beneteau Series are primarily cruising boats. Yet, they can be used for Performance Handicapped Racing Fleet (PHRF). They are also known in some sectors as the Oceanis Series. The Lagoon models are sloop rigged Catamarans. They feature spacious cabins in each hull and living space on the bridge deck.
